Hardware
Keep the software.
Choose the hardware.
logiccloud CONTROL is a container of roughly 36 MB. Wherever Linux and a container runtime are present, the device becomes a virtual PLC — from a compact controller in the cabinet to a server in the data centre.
The runtime decides, not the vendor. Which is why what follows starts with a criterion and only then gives a list.
Requirements
Three things. CONTROL needs no more.
If your device ticks these three boxes, logiccloud CONTROL runs on it — even if it is not named further down.
Linux
On ARM and on x86.
- ARM7 (32-bit)
- ARM8 / ARM64 (64-bit)
- x86-64
A container runtime
Which one is up to you.
- Docker
- Podman
- LXC
- snap
Access to the process
Fieldbus, serial interface or network.
- Modbus TCP and Modbus RTU
- OPC UA, MQTT, REST
- IO-Link through the vendor's gateway
Installation is a single command on the device. Updates, reconfiguration and removal run through the same script.
Compact controllers & edge controllers
In the cabinet, on the DIN rail.
Devices that already do the controlling — here CONTROL replaces the proprietary runtime while the I/O connection stays the vendor’s own.
WAGO
For the Compact Controller CC100, CONTROL ships a connector of its own — the local I/Os are addressed directly.

Bosch Rexroth ctrlX
logiccloud CONTROL is available as an app in the ctrlX OS Store and installs on any ctrlX OS device.

Edge gateways
For retrofits and remote service.
Devices that sit beside an existing control system: collect data, translate protocols, hold a secure connection outward — and run the logic on the same box.
IXON
CONTROL runs as a Docker app on the SecureEdge Pro — secure remote service and a virtual PLC on one device.
- SecureEdge Pro
Hilscher
Distributed through the Hilscher Industrial App Marketplace and netFIELD container management.
- netFIELD Compact X8M

FLECS
Not a device but the container layer on top of one: logiccloud CONTROL is listed in the FLECS Marketplace and installs on any FLECS-enabled device.

Or no device in the cabinet at all
CONTROL Cloud.
Higher-level control tasks, visualisation and connectivity run centrally — the same software base, executed somewhere else.
On your IT infrastructure
Kubernetes, Red Hat OpenShift, Linux and Windows Server — in your own data centre or at your hoster.
In the public cloud

Common questions about hardware
My device is not on the list. What now?
The list is a selection, not a boundary. What counts are the three requirements above: Linux, a container runtime and access to the process. Send us the type designation and the operating system of your device and we will tell you whether it fits.
Does my specific model need a release?
For a trial, the container runtime is enough. For series use we work out together which connector handles the local I/Os and the fieldbus on your device — for some devices, such as the WAGO CC100 or the Raspberry Pi, we ship a connector of our own.
How does CONTROL get onto the device?
- One install command on the device, and the runtime is up.
- Or from the vendor's own marketplace: ctrlX OS Store, FLECS Marketplace, Hilscher Industrial App Marketplace, PLCnext Store.
- Or onto many devices at once through logiccloud ORCHESTRATE — staged, with automatic rollback.
What about real time?
Time-critical control belongs on the machine: CONTROL EDGE runs directly on the device, with local I/Os and fieldbus, independent of the internet. How hard a real-time requirement can be met depends on the device and its operating system — that belongs in the design of your application and is something we go through in the project.
Does the choice of hardware lock me in?
No, and that is the point. The same automation app runs on a different device and equally in the cloud. When hardware goes end-of-life, the software moves on — the engineering stays.
How do I manage many devices in the field?
With logiccloud ORCHESTRATE: devices, workloads, versions and rollouts across vendor boundaries, aligned with the open Margo specification.
